Overview:
Dr Shaun Ho is a senior radiation oncologist and the Medical Director of Proton Therapy SG. His journey into oncology was not planned; he initially wanted to become a surgeon because of his interest in anatomy, pathology, precision and problem-solving. A chance encounter with a radiation oncology trainee introduced him to a specialty that offered similar precision while treating cancer without the invasiveness of surgery. His philosophy today combines advanced cancer treatment with compassion, sound clinical judgement and an emphasis on seeing the person behind the diagnosis.

Professional Experience:
Dr Ho completed his radiation oncology residency at the National Cancer Centre Singapore before undertaking a Clinical Oncology fellowship at University College London Hospital. His training included gastrointestinal oncology, neuro-oncology, sarcomas and lymphomas, with further specialised proton beam therapy training in Japan and Taiwan. He later established Raffles Hospital’s first radiotherapy programme, building the service from its equipment and staffing through to clinical workflows and patient care.
Turning Point:
The first turning point in Dr Ho’s career came during a surgical posting when he met a doctor training in radiation oncology. After experiencing the specialty himself, he realised it combined the precision and problem-solving he enjoyed with the opportunity to treat and potentially cure cancer without surgery. What ultimately convinced him to remain in oncology, however, was the relationship with patients and their families. Over time, he came to see that excellent medicine is not simply about knowing which treatments are technically possible, but understanding which option is appropriate for the individual patient.
What He Does Now:
Today, Dr Ho serves as Medical Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Proton Therapy SG, where he oversees clinical operations and the delivery of proton beam therapy. His work encompasses modern radiotherapy techniques including proton beam therapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and intensity-modulated radiotherapy. Alongside clinical precision, he emphasises compassionate care and shared responsibility among doctors, nurses, therapists, physicists and support staff. He also believes AI can make healthcare more efficient, while human judgement, experience and wisdom must remain central to patient care.
