Overview:

Jean Tan is an Employee Benefits Specialist who combines more than a decade of human resources experience with her subsequent work in wealth management. Having experienced the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to development and retention, she understands workplace issues from both the employee’s and employer’s perspectives. Her approach is guided by a simple philosophy: take care of the people so that the people can take care of the business.

Industry:

Employee Benefits | Human Resources | Wealth Management | Financial Services | Employee Engagement

Professional Experience:

Jean spent more than a decade as an HR business partner, gaining firsthand experience across recruitment, onboarding, employee development and retention. Her earlier working experience also included F&B, banquets and sales from the age of 14. Following COVID-19, she made a significant career transition into wealth management, where she developed a deeper understanding of financial protection and its relationship with employees’ personal and professional well-being. Today, this combination of HR and financial experience enables her to help businesses structure employee benefits that balance employees’ needs with employers’ budgets and long-term sustainability.

Turning Point:

Jean’s transition from HR into wealth management following COVID-19 became an important turning point in her career. Starting again required resilience, humility and a willingness to relearn. Wealth management also taught her to slow down, listen more carefully and recognise that many financial and business decisions ultimately revolve around protecting the people and things that matter most. She came to realise that her previous experiences had not gone to waste but instead gave her a broader perspective on how she could serve both people and businesses.

What She Does Now:

Today, Jean specialises in helping business owners, particularly SMEs, develop meaningful and sustainable employee benefits strategies. Rather than assuming that better benefits must mean higher expenditure, she encourages employers to understand their workforce, identify areas of financial vulnerability and use their existing budgets more intentionally. She also advocates workplace cultures built on consistency, fairness, accountability and trust. Her broader goal is to help businesses recognise that employee well-being and commercial success are complementary: when companies take care of their people, their people are better positioned to take care of the business.
