Overview:
Jake Lim is a Singapore-based financial adviser and multiple-time Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) achiever with 15 years of experience in financial planning. Originally trained in engineering, he entered financial advisory after discovering his passion for working with people. Through his Money Mindfulness initiative, Jake advocates greater financial awareness, encouraging individuals to understand their financial circumstances, make sustainable decisions and align their finances with their personal goals.
Industry:
Financial Services | Financial Planning | Wealth Management | Financial Education | Insurance
Professional Experience:
Jake began his educational journey at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), studying electrical technology, before progressing to electronics at Singapore Polytechnic and power engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Despite spending approximately eight years pursuing engineering qualifications, he eventually entered financial advisory following a chance encounter at an NTU career fair. Over the next 15 years, he established a successful advisory practice, achieving MDRT multiple times and building strong client relationships through financial education, trust and referrals. His professional experience has also provided opportunities to learn international best practices and contribute to community initiatives.
Turning Point:
A defining turning point came during Jake’s final semester at NTU, when he realised that engineering was not the career he wanted to pursue. Although he had invested years in technical education, he recognised that his strengths and interests lay in working directly with people. A conversation with a financial advisory manager at a career fair introduced him to a profession that combined his interest in finance with his desire to make a positive impact. His childhood experiences with money and financial security further motivated him to help others make informed financial decisions.
What He Does Now:
Today, Jake continues his financial advisory practice while expanding his financial education efforts through Money Mindfulness. He encourages individuals to understand their existing insurance coverage, CPF benefits, assets and financial commitments before purchasing additional products or making major financial decisions. He also advocates introducing financial literacy earlier in schools, believing that young people should understand money management before facing significant financial responsibilities. Beyond advising individual clients, Jake hopes to improve financial awareness among Singaporeans and help more people make conscious, sustainable financial choices that support their desired lifestyles.
