Overview: Singapore’s first World Yo-Yo Champion who transformed his childhood passion into a successful yo-yo business focused on products, coaching, events, and growing the yo-yo community globally.
Industry: Sports, Entertainment & Lifestyle Retail
Professional Experience: Marcus has over 20 years of experience in competitive yo-yoing, coaching, product design, event organisation, and entrepreneurship. He became the 1A Division World Yo-Yo Champion in 2011 at the age of 18 and is also a multiple-time Singapore Yo-Yo Champion. He later founded Throw Revolution, a premium yo-yo company based in Singapore.
About him: Marcus is a Singapore-based yo-yo champion, entrepreneur, and coach who discovered yo-yoing at the age of 10 after watching the anime Super Yo-Yo on Kids Central. Inspired by the dedication and perseverance shown by the characters, he spent years training rigorously while balancing school and everyday life.
Through discipline, resilience, and support from family and friends, Marcus eventually achieved his childhood dream of becoming a World Yo-Yo Champion in 2011. Rather than stopping there, he channelled his passion into building Throw Revolution, where he designs yo-yos, teaches students, organises events, and helps grow Singapore’s yo-yo ecosystem.
Turning point: A major turning point came after Marcus won the World Yo-Yo Championship in 2011. Following his victory, yo-yo companies began sponsoring him, giving him opportunities to learn about yo-yo design and manufacturing.
Over time, he realised he wanted to contribute beyond competition by developing products, teaching younger players, and building the yo-yo community in Singapore. Another important shift happened after the COVID-19 period, when he stepped up to revive Singapore’s declining yo-yo scene by organising meet-ups, mentoring younger players, and rebuilding interest in the sport.
What he does now: Marcus runs Throw Revolution, where he designs and sells premium yo-yos, conducts lessons, mentors young players, and organises yo-yo events and competitions. He is also actively involved with the Yo-Yo Association of Singapore, helping organise national competitions and community activities. Beyond business, Marcus continues advocating for yo-yoing to gain recognition as an official sport in Singapore while inspiring the next generation of players through teaching and social media.
